Arteest

Bryan, my little picasso, broke into our "junk" drawer a couple weeks ago and decided to make some art work on our kitchen door with a brown marker. He also managed to color the side of our kitchen cabinet but I was able to get most of it off. Thank goodness the door is going to be replaced anyhow...I had to take a picture just for this blog.

Macy's Ads

Both boys' ads ran this past week for Macy's. Here's a copy of Bryan's (my scanner's not too good!) and Wesley's ads.

Wesley just recently went to castings for Macy's, Pottery Barn Kids and Hannah Andersson last week. Everyone in our house is now sick, but the cats, although one was sneezing last night. YIKES!

It's my party and I'll cry if I want to...

The reason I haven't been updating the blog is because nothing wonderful is going on. In the 1 week that Wesley was able to go back to school he picked up pink eye and a very bad virus which turned into pneumonia within a day. I would expect this from Head Start but not a private preschool. It's interesting that the school doesn't monitor the children when they come in in the morning and send the sick one's home. Poor guy has now missed another week and a half of school and we had to cancel their birthday party until next month...

Another reaction...

Wesley's fever had finally gone away and things were going "normal" for him again until yesterday afternoon. His stomach started itching again and was bright red and had bumps all over it again. I threw the kids in the car and raced to the doctors before they closed. By the time we got into the doctors office his entire body was covered in itchy bumps and his face looked like it had went through a meat grinder. The nurse panicked when she came in the room and saw him. She asked me if he ate something he was allergic to. The doctor came in and quickly said that what he has is hives. They dosed him up with Benadryl again and his body finally calmed down after an hour. I came home and went online. Apparently hives is a serious side effect of the MMR shot. There's a 1 in a million chance of getting them up to 2 weeks after the shot. And he was blessed with getting them twice in the same week...my poor child.

Adverse Reaction...

SOOOOO, those of you who know me, know me well enough that you know how I feel about immunizations. I am a firm believer in doing them 1 at a time and at the VERY most, 2 at a time because of less chances of adverse reactions happening. SO, I have put off the MMR for both boys and Wesley finally had his first one about 10 days ago. (because of kindergarten) Anyhow, things seemed to move along fine for the past week until Friday night. He started complaining that he was VERY cold. I thought he was just trying to get out of eating his dinner again. So we took a warm bath and he turned in early. Saturday he woke up and wasn't hungry ALL day and was tired and looked just "out of it." He fell asleep on the couch at 7:00 and within 20 minutes he had severe red cheeks and about 40 bumps on his cheeks. His temp was 102. I called the doctor. Guess what folks? The MMR shot doesn't show side effects for 1-2 weeks. By 9pm his entire body (literally from head to toe) was covered in these massive red patches and itchy bumps. He was hysterical because he couldn't stop itching... He finally got to bed at 12am. His fever has continued all day and symptoms could last for a week. Sorry folks but at this point, I'm putting my foot down on the "round 2" of this vaccine. I can't see the logic in the torture for the poor guy...and I can definitely say that I made the right choice in waiting until he was 5. I can't imagine putting a 1 1/2 year old through this let alone a 5 year old...
And, for those of you who don't know me that well, now you know why I feel so strongly against immunizations.

Soda Springs

Yesterday we took the boys up to Donner Pass to go to the Soda Springs snow park. Wesley's 5th birthday was Saturday so we thought it would be a good idea to "celebrate" in a fun way. The park was really cool for the kids because they had a whole "kiddy area" where they could try out a bunch of different snow activities. They went tubing down a half pipe and they went on a inflatable "snow merry go-round" (which Bryan refused to get off of and stayed on for about 15 sessions - I'm not kidding) Wesley, being a bit older was able to try out skiing, snowboarding and even got to drive a snow mobile. They had a blast and it was nice and warm up there yesterday!
